RWENZORI SILVERBACK is a natural processed coffee sourced from the foothills of the legendary Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda — a region known for its dramatic landscapes, fertile volcanic soil, and determined smallholder farmers.

This lot is a collection of cherries from independent producers across the region. During harvest (September through December), cherries are selectively handpicked and delivered to the processing station the very same day. After float separation to remove defects, the coffee is laid on raised drying tables and carefully sun-dried for 21–35 days.

Once perfectly dried, the cherries travel to Kampala for milling and export preparation before making their way to us at Conflict Cup Coffee.

Coffee in the Shadow of Conflict

Uganda’s coffee sector is full of potential — but it does not exist without challenge.

In the Rwenzori region, communities have faced periodic instability linked to rebel activity near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tensions involving the Allied Democratic Forces have, at times, disrupted rural life, limited safe transportation routes, and created uncertainty for farming families. When insecurity rises, farmers may struggle to access markets, maintain infrastructure, or transport harvested coffee to processing stations.

Beyond armed conflict, smallholder producers also navigate land pressure, limited financial access, and infrastructure gaps — all of which hinder consistent production and long-term investment in quality.

Yet the farmers persist.

They continue to harvest by hand.

They continue to dry coffee with precision.

They continue to bring their crop to market — even when the road is uncertain.
